Russell J. Branaghan, PhD is President of Research Collective, a healthcare Human Factors Engineering and User Experience consultancy in Tempe, AZ. He is also Professor Emeritus of Human Systems Engineering at Arizona State University and Visiting Professor of Human Factors Engineering at Northwestern University. He has won “Outstanding Faculty” Awards at both schools. In 2021, Springer/Nature published his book “Humanizing Healthcare: Human Factors for Medical Device Design”.
At ASU, Russ served as Department Chair of Technological Entrepreneurship and Human Systems Engineering. He also co-founded and directed the degrees in User Experience Design and Tech Entrepreneurship. Prior to that, Russ served in R&D leadership roles at Hewlett-Packard and IBM.
Russ especially enjoys entrepreneurship, having co-built and successfully exited three consulting companies. Nowadays, his work focuses on making medical products useful, usable, desirable, and safe. His clients include mostly Fortune 500 companies, but he also works with smaller firms and start-ups. Russ has Hemophilia A and enjoys every opportunity to help others with bleeding disorders.
